What is an Alaska Gun Bill of Sale?

An Alaska bill of sale introduces a summary of the method in which a merchant gave a buyer an asset. The state does not allow citizens to own unregistered automatic or semi-automatic firearms, sound mufflers, or rifles and shotguns with a barrel exceeding the approved maximum length. Only individuals who have a federal permit can possess or use these types of guns.

Licensed dealers must inspect the customer’s criminal and mental health history to ensure they can legally have a firearm. Private merchants, on the other hand, do not have to conduct a review; however, they cannot give firearms to criminals or mentally unstable individuals. Alaska state troopers can arrest and fine vendors who knowingly engage in this type of trade deal.

How to Apply for Alaska Concealed Carry Permit

Alaskans can legally own a firearm without a permit or registration. Although not required, residents can apply for a concealed carry license. If approved, the individual can hide the gun on their body, such as in a holster covered by a jacket.

Having a permit increases the number of places a gun owner can carry and exempts them from federal background checks. To apply for “National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) Exempt” status, the person must complete Form 12-299-89 in addition to the standard documents.

Step 1 – Meet Requirements

To obtain a license, the applicant must:

• Be twenty-one (21) years of age or older;
• Be a resident of Alaska living in the state for more than ninety (90) days;
• Not have a criminal record of two or more Class A misdemeanors in any state during the past six (6) years;
• Be legally able to have a firearm;
• Not have an addiction to alcohol or substances (or have completed the treatment program more than three (3) years prior to the application);
• Finish a handgun course and retain a copy of the certificate as proof;
• Complete the application process truthfully and include all of the required documents; and
• Pay all of the applicable fees on time and in full.

If the person meets the above requirements, they can apply for a concealed carry permit.

Step 2 – Pass Handgun Safety Class

Residents must attend an in-person handgun safety class taught by a certified instructor. They must complete the course no more than 12 (twelve) months before applying for the permit.

The Alaska Permits and Licensing Unit provides interested parties with a list of approved courses upon request.

Step 3 – Photograph & Fingerprints

The applicant must have a professional headshot picture taken within thirty (30) days of sending the application. They must enclose the printed image in the packet of information for identification purposes.

Along with the photograph, the individual must have their fingerprint taken by a Department of Public Safety (DPS)-authorized service provider.
