How to Register a Trailer (3 Steps)

After making a trailer purchase, the new owner has seven (7) days to submit the registration and/or titling paperwork to their nearest county tax collector’s office. Nonresidents moving to Mississippi have a grace period of thirty (30) days to complete this task.

Per state law, boat and utility trailers must have a registration to operate. Furthermore, they only need a title if they weigh more than 5,000 pounds gross vehicle weight (GVW). Transactions involving children, parents, spouses, grandparents, and grandchildren also require both parties to finalize an Affidavit of Relationship.
